Types of SAT Exam Questions 2025

As you know, the SAT exam is no longer conducted on paper but is now administered in a digital format. This digital exam, which provides students with a more comfortable and convenient environment, consists of two sections and includes a total of 98 questions. So, what types of questions are included in the exam, and what can we expect to encounter? Let’s take a closer look at sample questions to clarify the answer.

Reading and Writing Section Question Types

This section consists of 54 questions and takes 64 minutes of the total exam time. The Reading and Writing section assesses candidates’ skills in reading comprehension, analysis, and connecting information in English, as well as their knowledge of grammar and writing conventions. Let’s take a look at sample questions to get a clearer understanding of the section:

Reading-Writing Sample Questions

The question requires us to choose the sentence that best describes the main idea of the passage. To do this, we must first read the passage carefully and understand what it is mainly about. Keeping the time in mind, we should proceed through this process efficiently and then review the answer choices. When we review the sample passage, we can see that the main point is about how Lillie Taylor uses resources such as plants and vegetables to prepare dye in Arizona. The most appropriate answer reflecting this idea is given in option C.

In this type of question, we are asked to select the most logically appropriate word to fill in the blank. For this, we must determine what the word in the blank explains and use the sentences before and after the blank to draw a conclusion and evaluate the answer choices. At this point, our vocabulary and logical thinking skills help us. With these abilities, we can quickly solve this type of question. For example, looking at the sample text, we can see that the correct word for the blank is given in option C.

In this task, you are required to analyze the given data and make the correct choice based on it. Once you understand the general topic, analyze the data in the table in relation to the question and choose the correct answer.

In this type of question, you are required to identify the appropriate punctuation mark according to writing rules. Based on the rule, option D is selected because there is no punctuation needed after the word in the sentence.

Math Section Questions

Previously, questions in this section were divided into “non-calculator” and “calculator” categories, but with the digital transition, this rule changed, and now a calculator can be used for all questions. This section is composed of questions designed to assess your mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Let’s look at some explained examples:

In the first question above, functions are given, and you are required to substitute the appropriate values of x into these functions and then plug the resulting values into the problem to find the answer. In the other question, you are asked to solve the given problem and select the correct option.

In the question above, you are required to choose the value on the y-axis that corresponds most closely to the point x = 32. Here, the point where x equals 32 corresponds to a point between 2 and 3 on the y-axis. Among the answer choices, only option C (which is 2.4) lies between 2 and 3.

The question samples provided above represent only a portion of the types of questions you may encounter during the exam. By reviewing detailed sample questions adapted to the Digital SAT or exploring SAT Practice Tests, you can familiarize yourself more closely and thoroughly with the types of questions on the exam.
